I don’t think there is a lovelier, quieter, more private spot in Airmont. The house has three bedrooms but room within to easily create at least one extra bedroom. Built in the 30′s, this solid, good quality home’s design was inspired by George Washington’s Mount Vernon house. The front has a large porch with grand pillars. The house is set back and up far enough from the road to make traffic noise a non issue – and also the road it is on is very quiet generally.

Although set up on a hill, the house is surrounded by plenty of flat land and behind the house the lawn turns into a sizable amount of raw woodland that then slopes down to a beautiful stream. The shady woods and stream are a great place for kids to play in the summer when it’s really hot. There are no steps from the house to access the yard- young kids can walk straight out. There is a big eat in kitchen with plenty of light and big windows offering a great view of the kids playing outside whilst working in the kitchen.

The house has oil fired central air and central AC. I also put in a large wood burning stove which, since we put it in, has been our main source of heating, using firewood from our own trees on the property that needed to come down. The house has mains sewage and well water.

There is an attached double garage which at one point used to be a home office and has it’s own separate entrance. This is what we considered reconverting back to living space to make bedroom no. 4. Also there is a separate ‘cottage’ – a nice looking 12′ x 20′ one level building which I had gutted, re-insulated, re-sheetrocked, re-wired and put new windows in. I’ve used it as an office and it is connected via ethernet to the main house so it could be hooked up to the main house’s internet connection. Attached to this at the back is another small shed like structure that is connected to the office by a door and although is a very raw storage space, could be quite easily upgraded to provide another room for the office. The attic of the main house is one big straight forward open space which could be also converted to extra living space. Lastly, on the property is a good quality, nice looking 14′ x 10′ shed which I built from a kit last year. Plenty of parking – at least 7 cars.

Taxes were $22k last year included the town of Ramapo taxes and the Village of Airmont taxes.

Easily access to the Garden State Parkway and i87. 20 minutes from the Palisades Mall and less to The Shops At Nanuet Mall for shopping. A few hundred yards to the Jersey border and 10 minutes to Tices Corner Mall in Woodcliff. The Nanuet and Woodcliff Malls both have Apple Stores. The lovely town of Ridgewood, NJ is about 25 minutes away and there are closer nice towns like Ramsey, Allendale and Ho Ho Kus. And let’s not forget that the vast expanse of shopping opportunities on Route 17 which goes down from Mahwah to Paramus. If you prefer hiking, kayaking or fishing, then the stunning and massive Harriman State Park is about 35 minutes away with plenty of hiking trails and lakes for kayaking and fishing. If you like skiing, Mount St Peter is only about 40 mins away which is a great place for kids to learn because of it’s proximity. However if you are a seasoned skier, you’d probably prefer to drive quite a bit further to the north.

For commuting to the city, about 10 mins or less away from the house is a bus stop which a lot of locals use to bus into Port Authority in about 45 mins.
